What Is Rejuran and Why Bellas in Metro Manila Are Obsessed With It

Updated: Apr 30

If you've been on skincare social media lately, you've probably seen Rejuran come up a lot. It's been called a glass skin secret, a "skin healer," and one of the most effective anti-aging treatments to come out of South Korea. But what does it actually do? And is it worth it?

Let's break it down in a way that actually makes sense. No confusing medical jargon, just honest information so you can make the best decision for your skin, Bella.

First: What Is Rejuran?

Rejuran is an injectable skin booster, but it works very differently from fillers or traditional hydration shots. Its active ingredient is a purified compound called polynucleotides (PN), which are long-chain DNA fragments extracted and highly purified from wild salmon.

Before you raise an eyebrow at "salmon DNA", here's the cool part. The polynucleotides in Rejuran are so biocompatible that the body recognizes them as its own, triggering a natural healing and regeneration response. It doesn't add volume the way a filler does, and it doesn't relax muscles the way Botox does. Instead, it tells your skin cells to repair themselves.

Rejuran was first developed in South Korea, where it's been used clinically for over a decade and has since been exported to more than 20 countries globally.

How Does It Actually Work?

Here's the science, simplified.

As we age, the fibroblasts in our skin or the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin become less active. UV exposure, stress, pollution, and just the passage of time all slow them down. The result: thinner skin, fine lines, reduced elasticity, and that "tired" look we often try to cover with makeup.

When Rejuran's polynucleotides are injected into the dermis, they do a few key things:

  1. Stimulate fibroblasts — encouraging them to produce more collagen and elastin

  2. Attract water molecules — deeply hydrating the skin from within

  3. Calm inflammation — important for clients dealing with acne, redness, or sensitized skin

  4. Support the skin barrier — improving overall skin resilience

That's not just a glow boost. That's the skin actually becoming structurally healthier.

From injection to visible results, this is how Rejuran works at every stage.

The Different Types of Rejuran

At Skin Buffet, we offer the main variants so our doctors can tailor the treatment to exactly what your skin needs:

Rejuran Healer (H) — The original. Used for overall skin repair, rejuvenation, and anti-aging. Addresses fine lines, elasticity, hydration, and general skin quality. Great for Bellas looking for a comprehensive skin reset.

Rejuran I (for undereyes) — A specialized formulation for the delicate under-eye area. Targets dark circles, fine lines, and dryness around the eyes where the skin is thinnest.

Rejuran S (for scars) — Contains a higher concentration of PN, specifically formulated to address acne scars and uneven skin texture by promoting targeted skin healing.

Not sure which one is right for you? That's what our doctors are here for. A quick consultation helps us assess your concerns and recommend the right variant and number of sessions.

What to Expect: Before, During, and After

Before: A topical numbing cream is applied for 20-30 minutes to minimize discomfort. Most clients find the procedure very tolerable, like a mild pinching sensation at most.

During: The Rejuran solution is injected into the skin using a fine needle, typically in a series of micro-injections across the treatment area. A session takes approximately 30-45 minutes in total.

After: Some redness and mild swelling may occur and typically fade within 24-48 hours. There's no extended downtime. Most clients return to normal activities the same day.

Results timeline: Some clients notice a glow and improved hydration within the first week. The more significant changes include improved texture, firmer skin, and reduced fine lines which develop over four to eight weeks as collagen builds.

How many sessions? Our doctors typically recommend three to four sessions spaced every three to four weeks, followed by maintenance every six to twelve months.

Who Is Rejuran Best For?

Rejuran works beautifully for a wide range of skin concerns. It's a great fit if you're dealing with:

  • Dull, tired-looking skin that's lost its natural glow

  • Fine lines and early signs of aging

  • Acne scars or uneven skin texture (Rejuran S)

  • Dark circles or fine lines around the eyes (Rejuran I)

  • Sensitive or thin skin that needs gentle but effective repair

  • Post-summer UV damage that's left your skin looking flat or dehydrated

Because it works at a cellular level to improve the skin's own regenerative capacity, polynucleotides like Rejuran offer a multilevel and long-lasting benefit that goes beyond what simple hydrating boosters can achieve, according to a 2024 systematic review published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.

That said, the best way to know if Rejuran is right for you is to talk to a doctor who can assess your skin directly.

Is It Safe?

Yes. Rejuran's safety profile is one of the reasons it's become so trusted globally. Over 10 million Rejuran doses have been used by medical professionals worldwide, with no serious adverse events reported in the literature. As with any injectable treatment, it should always be performed by a licensed practitioner in a clinical setting.

At Skin Buffet, all injectable procedures are performed by our team of licensed doctors in a safe, monitored environment.
